Default What's the best "Deal" you ever got on an acoustic guitar?

I'd have to say that even though I was made a fairly decent deal on my Takamine GB7C, the absolute best deal that we ever got was on a Martin Cowboy III.

Guitar Center was having one of their sales, and we picked one up for $174. We still have it.

The "deal", if you will, that I got on my GB7C was because I told the guy at Guitar Center I was considering buying one, but I was considering buying it online. This was before you had to pay taxes on Internet purchases. He told me that if I bought it from him, not only would he not charge me taxes on it, he'd throw in a case for free. So that's exactly what I did.

Inexpensive guitar, but I bought my Cigano Macaferri style for $400, two months later they doubled the list price!

My last two purchases, both Martin dreads. Each was four years old when I bought them, each in New condition. Saved a total of over $2,700 from new MAP.

I got phenomenally lucky in finding both sellers. That’s the key, if you ask me (I mean IYAM in 2023-speak).

Couldn’t be happier.

Best deal was winning my F512 on the first Let's Meet Guild tour in 2010, only cost was the gas for my trip from New Haven to New Hartford and back! Plus, a tour of the Guild factory was thrown in!

How do you judge a deal's goodness? On paper? or actual value?

On paper, the best deal I got was an Ibanez RGAR42HP for $600 from Musician's Friend SDOTD, a discount of 40% ($400). However, I sold it at $400.

In actual value, the best deal I got was a Fender American Performer Stratocaster at $825 from Adorama. I sold that for $800.

Based on my experience, I believe that in order for you to properly determine value, you must also sell the guitar. Perhaps accounting for inflation these days too.

I paid $340 for my Martin 0-16NY in 1984. Tough to beat that - I’d say it was a keeper

By far, the best deal for me is my hand made custom build that the builder gifted to me.
Dreadnaught with Adirondack Top, Zebrawood sides and back, forward shifted X bracing, Ebony fingerboard and bridge Gold Evo frets, Gold Grover tuners.

My dream guitar!

About 20yrs ago my friend got a 1962 Martin 00-18 and a Selmer markVI for 75.00 at a yard sale...
I've had some nice guitars, banjos mandolins and violins over the years for pennies to the dollar....Unfortunately thats all dried up now...

A 2020 OM28, got it for 2k in this past March in good condition. Wasn’t sure if rosewood was my sound but saw it as too good to pass up. Turns out I’m more into the j45 thing right now and let it go for a small profit.

Best deal I’ve gotten was last year I bought a 2015 Martin 000-15sm is excellent condition, nice pickup already installed (I jam with buddies in a full band) for $800 off FB Marketplace. I feel that was a great deal, especially because I enjoy the guitar so much!

Traded in a Martin Backpacker (a glorified canoe paddle) for a Gretsch Jim Dandy and a Roadrunner gig bag. I think my out-of-pocket expense was $59.
