Default Summer is coming early this year...

Just boiled my first pot of green peanuts yesterday, got a really sweet watermelon, and had my first tomato sandwich just now with a fresh loaf of white bread, a new jar of Dukes mayonnaise, salt & pepper, and a very ripe red tomato. Mmmmm...bring it on!

Summer is coming early this year...

Yes, we are putting in our vegetable garden about 3 weeks earlier than we used to back about 40 years ago. Today, May 13, we are predicted to have temperatures into the 90's in the coastal Pacific Northwest.

Great produce notwithstanding, I'm not in a hurry for summer here in the PNW. I live in the nevergreen inland shrub steppe on the dry side of the mountains. We expect triple digit days in July and August.

But just yesterday we hit the mid 90's. Way too early to be this hot!

White bread, mayo, S&P, and a tomato? Is that all there is to it?

Might have to try that.

It's late here in the midwest and I'm happy about it.

We've had nice days and cool nights with low humidity all Spring.

I've been renovating a property (without a/c) for the last 7 weeks and have been dreading the upper 80's plus with high humidity and it hasn't happened yet, with the exception of today.

Next week is nice again with lows in the 50's and pleasant days.

I need to hurry up and finish this project!

Tomato sammiches' are the best! Toast the white bread, let cool, slather with mayo and add the tomato slices. Mmmmmm-mmmmmm

We are still enjoying Spring here in the Mid-Atlantic. High of 72' today and fair skies. My wife's garden is coming along great, with the peas now over four feet tall and blooming.

Interesting :: We are about a month late here in high rockies and still in early spring like weather .

34 F here this morning, with afternoon highs of mid 40"s and we still have about a 50/50 mix of snow patches and bare ground. It is supposed to start to get into the mid 60's next week.

Ken...Dukes Mayo is a must! Any ripe tomato will work but an heirloom is best. I bet you'll be a convert!

Interesting...never tried one on toasted white bread. Gotta let it cool down after toasting? I'll have to try that...

Like Slaw said it's been fairly mild here so far. Lots of 60-70 degree days. High today for Mother's Day low 80's chance of showers. I'm taking Mrs DB out for breakfast later this morning. 95 is coming soon enough.

May 1st I got the sprinkler system turned on but haven't used it yet here in N. Colorado. It's rained 5 out of the last 6 days. Some thunder storms and one steady rain that dropped 2" in 24 hours. We had a few 80F days around the first but it's been pleasantly cool for the last week.

And it's raining again today as i type this. Another good day for playing guitar!

I didn’t respond here to comment on the weather, but rather to say that a tomato sandwich can ONLY be made with toasted bread. What goes into the toasted bread is personal preference, but for me, no toast, no tomato sandwich.
Carry on.
