Creative Fingerstyle Guitar with Open Tunings

- For Composition and Songwriting

This workshop will focus on creative techniques in composition for guitar. It will introduce a variety of open tunings, Fingerstyle patterns, approaches to writing memorable melodies along with various approaches to song forms. Attendees will be provided with a collection of guitar tunings, some of which will be explored through shapes, finger patterns and creative motifs to spark new ideas in your compositional toolbox. Attendees will be encouraged to compose a piece of music (or write a vocal song) after the class given the tools provided in the workshop. By the end, you should feel there is a wide-open path of new thought to your compositional and musical toolbox. Additionally we will discuss song development, creative harmonic twists, chord progressions, and ways to make your pieces unique by developing your own musical voice.

Save the date!!!!!

Hello Fellow AGF Folks,

I offer no excuses for why I’ve been aloof lately…other than the basic fact that I’m quite introverted by nature. I tend to wrap myself within the cocoon of my shop…in a self-imposed isolation, free from the crazy world that exists around me. As much as I enjoy interacting with wonderful and amazing people, I tend to spend most of my days enjoying the quiet and peaceful existence that lutherie affords me. As has become the custom for me over the past few years, though, the anticipation, preparation and lead up to the Greatest Show on Earth (aka the Bowersox International Guitarpalooza) is the preverbal “kick-in-the-pants” that I seem to require to pull me from the daily goings-on in my shop and into the bright lights of the AGF.

the introvert I tend to be is once again surprised by the fact that I am very much looking forward to seeing a bunch of familiar faces (as well as first-timers) at BIG v4 this fall, and I’ve got a couple of interesting “builds” on the workbench that I’m cobbling together to reveal to you all at the show. I plan to begin the unveiling ritual in the very near future…but not just yet.

For the moment, though here’s a teaser: I’ll tell you that they’re both inspired by the humbling response I received last fall to the Waterfall-figured Bubinga & Bearclaw Sitka “Solis” auditorium that I brought with me to the show last September. These two new guitars will both utilize the same Tunnel-14 Redwood bracing that the Bubinga guitar was built with…but one of them will incorporate a twist that I’ve not yet built into a Two Hands Guitar.

With that all being said, allow me to take a moment to wish Tom and Kathy…two of my most favoritest human beings in the entirety of the entire world…a very bigly and humongulous “CHEERS” for a lifetime of happiness together. You two were meant for one another ❤️❤️

Thanks for the congrats!!! Just got home yesterday from our trip and it is now time to focus on B.I.G. 2023.

12 luthiers so far, Tony McManus, Christee Lenee, Frog and Toad, 2 workshops so far, one from Tony and one from Christee (posted info earlier), food and drink all three days, concerts Friday and Saturday nights, great guitars, great luthiers, great people, lots of fun. In a great area of TX between San Antonio and Austin with lots to do in the area including the River Walk, Natural Bridge Caverns, Gruene, Fredericksburg wine trail, Austin scene, etc.

I am about to send out the first email with more details on tickets etc. If you want to get on the email list, just send me a PM with that info. It is kept private and you will only here from myself or Kathy.

Thanks for all the replies so far! If you have been to B.I.G. in the last couple of years, we should have your email unless you have changed it.

If you did not come last year, it would be good to send it to me. Thanks!

B.I.G. IV performers confirmed and ready to go:

Frog and Toad, the anchor of our shows!

Tony McManus, arguably the world's best celtic fingerstylist fresh off a European tour.

Christee Lenee, won 2017 International fingerstyle guitar championship, acoustic guitarist of the year, and two time finalist in the USA song writing competition, among other awards. She has toured with Tommy E., and played with many other stars like Andy McKee and Melissa Etheridge.

I think that should take care of the entertainment LOL!

Both Tony and Christee will be doing workshops as well.
