Thanks for the video! I must have missed something though, the owner is gonna have him take the top off to do a conversion??? What does that mean?

You're welcome! A conversion is when you take a project guitar that has structurally sound back & sides and broken/ruined top & or neck, and convert it into a new guitar- often with a new guitar design. Players often convert a D-28 into a D-41, D-28 Adi, etc. I'm sure others here can give you a more accurate definition.

That was great, thanks for sharing. I learned that under tension the straight edge from the neck may be a little lower than the top of the bridge. Good to know always thought it should be right to the top of the bridge. Look forward to part 2

Very informative, and thorough video. I also do not use a neck puller, as sold by Stew-Mac. Just don't need one.

Maury,
Thanks for sharing. Oh, you probably don't remember and that is 100% understandable, but I'm still playing that SPD 16-K2 I bought from you several years ago. One of my favorite Martins. Jeff S |

An enjoyable video ... I am not sure how John is going to figure out how much to pare off the heel in order to bring the neck to the correct angle, now that the neck has been removed, but I guess all will be revealed in the second video, when we see him paring the heel.
I would have thought that it would have been a good idea to measure the amount to take off before removing the neck, while the guitar was strung up to tension, by installing a temporary saddle which raised the string height to a full .5", at which point it is an elementary geometrical calculation to figure out how much needs to be removed to bring the 12th fret action down to the required height. Still, I am sure John has done plenty enough neck resets to have a handle on it, so I am interested to see how he goes about paring the heel. |
