I'll make you some free CabM+ preset. I own this pedal (It's French so I can actually make it if you send me the recordings.

The EQ+IR will not sound as good but the "Full IR" and "Quackless" presets will be as good as coming from a Helix/HX (might be better).
Thank you,

Yes, I've been downloading your IR's from your website..

I love the Santa Cruz vintage southerner, J-45 Standard and 1943 J-45..

on my own guitar tone, let me get a mic first so I can record things for you, and then I'll wait on the quackless preset.. since I can only load 2 IR's for the CabM+ as you know, so one IR is the "Full IR" and the other is quackless IR?

I like the idea of taming the piezo quack, but not getting into full mic territory with IR. Soundclip #2 would work really well for playing live through a PA.

With this kind of IR, is it a one size fits all situation, or is it specific to the guitar & pickup like other IR's?

I have been using multiple EQ blocks in the HX stomp rather than IR lately for plugging into a PA, and while I wouldn't say it sounds like a mic'd guitar, I like it better than a full IR. And better than a blended IR as well. I have made a couple of IRs that simply contain an EQ curve that I set up in my DAW and those work fairly well too.

You are limited to 2 IR « simultaneously » in one preset.

But I think you can make 99 presets.

I don’t know. I think it is more generic Than Full IR but not enough to fit all. I think it is going to work on similar guitars with similar pickups. (My 2 cents)

It is the main idea behind the « dry » preset, however I add a IR bloc with an IR file made similarly to the « quackless » preset to remove the quack.

For me EQ balance the tone but does not really alter the « feel ». EQ are filters designed to have a super fast response.

My IR are here to « model » the propagation of sound throughout the top. I am not sure if it is really « right » but it is how I like to see it.

Default SM57 vs UST vs Dual source vs IR

Here are couple videos I made so one could check the difference between
  • External mic (Shure SM57)
  • Piezo Undersadle transducer (Martin thinline goldplus)
  • Dual source (UST+internal mic, Anthem-like home-made preamp)
  • My custom-made IR presets

For all videos, the camera microphone is turned off when I play the guitar.
