I am looking for some of the little discs that are left over when they cut the sound hole on a guitar top. I know Martin used to have them available on their factory tours but I'm not interested in driving hundreds of miles to get one.
Any ideas? |

Martin passed them out at one of the guitar shows I went to, I polyurethaned them and use them as coasters. It has sparked some interesting dinner conversations.

I received three Taylor ones for a gift back around 2--5 from a friend (who owns several Taylors). He bought them from Taylor…don't know if that's a thing any more. Found a variation (not necessarily made from cutout)…Click Hope you find what you want. |

Taylor often passes them out at their "Road Shows".

If you're going to refer the OP to eBay then might as well inform them that a search of "Taylor" "Sound hole" "Coaster" will bring up several people selling the free Taylor cutouts right there on eBay. It's either that or a trip to El Cajon, CA or Nazareth, PA. Good luck! |

You're probably right. Based on posts here, people apparently would rather use the forum as a resource rather than typing into google, eBay etc. |

That's not uncommon on many forums. Almost as common as asking a question already asked a bunch of times as the new person doesn't want to have to run a search and despite the fact that some good answers have been given.

Several years ago I was told that some collectors consider the actual piece from their guitar to be a positive in the guitars value.
No idea if that's a fact as I'm not a collector. |

I have several of these disks from Taylor Road Shows (RIP), the Martin booth at NAMM, and other sources. Friends have even sent me a couple when they have come across them. Mine are mostly used as coasters on the desk or the table next to my main guitar chair.

If forums had an “only new questions” rule, they wouldn’t last long…or…the idiocy of the new questions would kill discussions very quickly. I’d much rather read another thread on the best strings for a j45 than some weird one on what animal the smell of a new mahogany short scale guitar most reminds you of. Most people rehash old discussion topics in real life too. Or ask friends answers to questions they could google instead. I don’t think I’m the only person who retells stories or laughs at old jokes heard before when catching up with mates…it’s Ok to repeat questions or ask dumb ones…or make dumb comments too. |

![]() Seriously, your example doesn't make any sense. That thread on the best new strings for a j45 can be added on to and expanded rather than having to hunt down multiple threads on the same topic (with much of the same advice from the same people). You could ALSO read that animal smell(??) one because it is a new topic or go back and read the old posts in it too. Again, multiple posts merely create a mess and confusion IMHO. Tougher to find the info you want than just an easy search could uncover. Yes, there are people that still don't understand how to properly search google, forums or basically anything but most could easily do it and save the bits and bytes for newer, more pressing questions. ![]() |

I see your point but I don’t think new posts on old topics (which could have slightly different slants) should be discouraged. |

I've gotten ~5 or so of these from Santa Cruz, when I signed up for the recurring string delivery plan. You might order some little stuff from them, and give them a call and see if they can throw in any cutouts!
