Default Which would you pick?

I’ve owned Martin 000-28VS, 000-17SM, HD 28, Santa Cruz D PW

Currently only playing a DSS-17

I’ve found I like 1 3/4” nuts 25.5” scales and full bodied guitars.

I’ve never played a Bourgeois but the slope D are recently very attractive to me

I’m also a sucker for the Martin sound and this flame neck is killing me. I’ve also never played Adi before.

I’m looking at these two.

I'd pick the Martin, but ALL these guitars are so good you'd need to play individual examples to find the outstanding one, just right for you.

IIRC, Dana worked voicing Martins for a while - I think it was the Schoenberg batch, so there's likely to be some cross-pollination somewhere. .

I played this exact black Martin D-28 about 10 days ago at CME. Buy it from their website or call them directly for a better price. This has a VTS top but not scalloped braces. You can read a lot about the sound difference between a new D-28 and HD-28. As far as new D-28s go, it was a good one. I’m sure it’ll open up even more with a little time. The black top was pretty cool to look at.

I'd pick both of 'em. That's what guitars are for!

The 000-17sm is a 12-fret if that matters to you

I have never heard anything bad about a Bourgeois. But I did play one a couple years ago and came away thinking these guitars are way over hyped. But most guitar players do tend to over hype their guitars.

Of the two I would go with the safe bet and get the Martin. Easier to sell if you so decide down the road.

But then again I think I prefer Mahogany, so well, I don't know. Which one are you leaning to?

The top list of acoustics I’ve owners previously.

I’m leaning towards the Martin D 28…although I can’t hear or play it.

The Bourgouis is up in Vermont a 4 hour drive away…I like the shape it is in an almost 20 years old..

If you are up for a 4 hour drive I would certainly try to play the Bourgeois because you just never know. But without being able to try it out I would be hesitant.

A D28 is a D28. If you like them they are all good and you know what you're getting.

I like the flamed Mahogany neck on the Martin and if it was a HD28 it would be a clear winner. I prefer scalloped braces but maybe the VTS top makes up it. I really need play them before I could tell you which one I like better.

Bourgeois over the Martin any day... over the 2 choices.

But you're comparing two very different guitars. If you prefer the Sloped Shoulder, easy decision.

Good luck with your decision!
