Catch up with the times, Andy. Now the fancy stuff is "Carpathian."

I will have to disagree with your there. I grew up here in the Pacific Northwest, and they were always called "picks." I didn't hear that the technical name for them was a "plectrum" until much later. And have since wondered, if you were right, why there was no such thing as "Fingerplectruming."

What we have here is evidence of how the English language has evolved in the few hundred years since we kicked your lot out. After all, we don't begrudge you "boot" or "torch."

I would only ask that people avoid using the terms 'shimmer' and 'chime' when describing tone.

People can be driven crazy by just about anything. I try not to let stuff that people write on a forum or odd terms that people use bother me. Life is short.

Good point. Minty compared to mint condition is like "kind of pregnant" compared to pregnant...

“Warm” w/r/t tone.

I’ve heard recently that this MAY have a quasi-technical definition: the relative volume of first- and second-order overtones compared the the fundamental tone of the note. But “warm” is thrown around so casually I suspect most people just mean “I like the way it sounds.”

After all, ever head anyone say “I love my Martin dreadnaught, it just sounds so COLD!”

Honorable mention: “that [topwood/brand/body style/whatever] IS very [subjective descriptor].”

Oh Really?!? It is? Thank you oh all-knowing, all-seeing God of Lutherie for blessing us mortals with your omniscient ears!

I think it's weird to refer to a guitar as a "she." As in, "She's a beauty."

“Herd” is bad. “Remuda” is worse.

The phrase “threw on a set of strings” kind of bugs me. From how far away were they thrown, and did they land in the right spot?

How about “put on”, or “installed”?
