Default Commonly used guitar related words that drive you crazy!!!!

With no intention to offend anyone, there are several words frequently used here that drive me bonkers:
  • Calling a 12 string guitar a “12er”;
  • Same for a 6 string…”6er”;
  • “Scratch plate”
  • And, of course, “Hog” when referencing mahogany

Mini rant for the day. What gets under your skin?

"Plays like butter". To me, it conjures up some sort of a greasy vision. And I like butter too..

- banjo killer
- cut through the mix
- Gibby
- Keef
- minty fresh
- pulled the trigger
- rawk
- relic'd
- SRV

Stay tuned. More undoubtedly to follow. . . .

Using the abbreviation “Adi” for Adirondack spruce, which is actually red spruce, bugs me. The term “blew everything else out of the water” is amusing. And I have been wondering why the adjective “superb” has become so popular on the forums this last couple years. I know it’s just me, but I find it a tad pretentious, as it’s usually used to describe upper echelon guitars.

Commonly used guitar related words that drive you crazy!!!!

Unrelated words/phrases from other sources like temperature and weather that are used to non-describe guitars and/or guitar sounds.

That 'butter' phrase resonates here too. Never played with butter. Never will. Butter is either rock hard or soft and slimy depending on its state.

'Warm' too. See 'butter'. Worse yet, warm butter.

Talk softly and carry that big stick,

Don

Scratches, dings, cracks, etc.. that “I tried” to photograph… but otherwise excellent condition.

or

Used New, never played, mint - do you mean you bought a guitar and never played it and are selling it? Really? Never…

Please stop.

A phrase my wife uses a lot - “you can only play one guitar at a time.”

The phrase "My [insert the name/model of a guitar costing <$200] blows a [insert the name/model of a guitar costing >$2000] out of the water." Listen, I'm glad that you're happy with your new inexpensive guitar, but such hyperbole is hard to believe and often hard to take...
