It's bear claw cedar. The markings are not as dramatic as what occurs in spruce. It's a gentler pattern that shows best under finish

The other thought I had was if adding the rosewood to the top of the braces changes the back tap tone to more rosewood than walnut, are we really playing braces more than the back woods? I have heard it stated that if you thin the back too much, you are playing the braces.

There is certainly a dynamic going on between the plate and the braces. A lattice like bracing pattern has a larger area of brace than a more traditional ladder bracing system, and probably has more influence on the taptone of the plate. If the braces were solid rosewood that would certainly change the sonic behavior of the back plate, and if the braces were only partly rosewood then who knows. I’m thinking it would depend on the placement of the rosewood strip. I’m obviously rambling here.

I agree that sycamore does have appealing grain, and if anyone can make it sing my brother can, but I decided to pass on a wood that I felt would take special effort to get the tone to be what I wanted.

Thank you for the advice brother! I do appreciate input that is definitive and unambiguous and such that I don't have to ponder what was really meant. Especially so if it confirms what I already thought. So edge burst it will be.
