Hello! I am currently searching to buy a compressor pedal that could work for both of my live setups, generally looking for something small that I could use for slight compression on my Taylor GS Mini and and more agressive compression when I use my Fender Squier Telecaster, I never play with both guitars in the same gig, but I would like to have a single comp pedal I could tweak for each.
Though I want something I could use for both guitars, my priority is having a good compression for the Taylor, since I play acoustic gigs way more often. I have been reading a while and my top picks for now are the following: EGO Wampler Mini Greer Amps Lamplighter Optical Compressor Pedal Keeley Compressor Plus The greer amps is optical which I understand would works better for acoustic guitars, I've read a lot about the Keely and Ego but I'm not sure how they would work on the Taylor, anybody could offer some advice on what could work well on both guitars, I am open to guidance or if you have any other recomendation I would like to hear it, keeping in mind that I am looking for a small pedal, not something like the Strymon OB.1 Optical Compressor. I'm also looking for something that doesn't add much colour, as I want my compression as transparent as it gets. |

I have the Ego and Ego mini on different boards. I find having a blend knob (parallel compression) to be essential unless I’m using something like an FEA dual band where I can tweak lows and highs differently. The Egos are pretty well behaved and I like the tone control option as well.

Mooer Yellow compressor is what I like. A clone of the Diamond compressor (which is out of production and getting expensive).
It's optical, transparent, high fidelity and small.

I was pointed towards this page recently with a serious list of comps. It discusses many aspects of compression from both a technician's and an informed users point of view (bass player).
Great background reading. http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/dc24.shtml

I don't use a compressor on my acoustic pedalboard.
Use an Optical compressor on my electric. But it's just barely on. A soundman can add compression to his hearts extent. I do mostly solo anymore, so I just go au natural. I like my dynamics to translate. |

Another Wampler Ego user here, but only for electric. From my research before getting it, I learned that the blend knob is key to keeping the natural sound of your guitar intact. The Ego definitely adds pixy dust to my tele.
It can do the long sustain or the chickin' pickin' snap, but I never use it for those purposes.

Agree, I dig the Mooer Yellow comp for all of Gordon's reasons.

I've recently picked up one of these for mandola (K&K/Tonedexter) and Tak (Tak/TD).
It sounds great, with my favourite setting initial transient is relatively untouched but the rest of the sound, body and detail, is brought up and pushed forward. I haven't used it in anger yet but looking forward to it.

Recently got a Becos CompIQ Mini. I stick it in the loop of my Helix Stomp, after IR. It’s not multiband per se, but the way it engages different frequencies due to roll off of lower frequencies makes it feel/sound like multiband. I really like it on acoustic. Evens out my sound, takes spike out of my strumming and makes my fingerpicking sound more present.
I’ve also really like the Boss CP-1X.

I use a MXR Mini Dyna Comp and a Boss RV6 Reverb/Delay pedal for my acoustic board. Sometimes the set list demands a chorus pedal, then the Boss CE5 gets added to the minimal board. I prefer to adjust the compression of my guitar at my board so I know what the signal out is sounding like as opposed to having the FOH mixer add anything to my signal. I know what I need, the FOH mixer is generally an unknown entity to me. I prefer to just leave the overall house volume to him/her.

I have used a Keeley Compressor Pro on my board for nearly six years. The Pro replicates a rack mounted compressor and works well with my electrics, acoustics and even mic’ed vocals.

Strymon Compadre here. Compressor + boost (clean or dirty; flat, mid, or treble) in one pedal.

I’m a big believer in optical compressors.
