Brooks harkens back to a different era in baseball. Old Memorial Stadium was literally in the middle of a neighborhood and you'd pay people to park in their yards. Another piece of my youth.

He was the best defensive third baseman of all time, winning 16 straight Gold Glove awards. When he was inducted into the baseball HOF, it was written about him that he was an even better human being than he was a ballplayer.

I can remember as kids we could argue about Mantle, or Mays. You could always talk about pitching. But third base? There was only the one guy. At least that we knew about.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that his famous 1970 World Series was the first time he played on artificial turf.

Lots of memories of Brooks as he got going right when I started watching baseball. Saw him play many a game at Memorial and DC (RFK) Stadiums and remember he was a great fan of the game as an announcer for the O’s too. Nice article in The Washington Post on Brooks by Tom Boswell and the Obit is great too. Even includes a clip of his play on Lee May in the 70 series.
Ray, remember parking at Memorial Stadium and paying the kids to watch the car to make sure hubcaps were going to be on the car when you got back after the game? Jeff

The catch on this play was sensational enough, but the throw to first....
That's what separated him from the rest.

Growing up a baseball fan, Brooks Robinson was definitely a legend in the game.
There was no better 3rd baseman. I used to like his short billed batting helmet. |

Have your self some fun and google Brooks and Frank Robinson Lite Beer ad. That O’s team was a lot of fun even before Earl Weaver came to town.
