I have been considering a 000-18. I haven't played any Modern Deluxe yet. Any owners? Experiences with this model? Thoughts?

No ideas on this model ... but the Modern Deluxe D-28's are a version of their dread's that I wanted to play .... not a fan of the "classic" "vintage" unbalanced Boom-THUD sounds so many enthuse about ... so maybe it'll be an interesting alternative?

You get a pretty good package of upgrades for a good price. The question is if it's the sound you want. Some good discussion here:

My 000 28MD is a great, easy playing fingerpicking guitar.

I've played most of these models. I would say that, in general, the Modern Deluxe series sound a little brighter and more lively. The VTS Sitka top sounds good to my ears. The bracing is the same as GE bracing which is lighter than that what they build the standard series with. The carbon fiber bridge plate should make the guitar a little more stable, but also imparts a tone difference. They look lovely too.
The go/no go for many people is the neck. It is a very thin soft v asymmetrical shape. I loved the sound of the D-28 MD I purchased when they came out. I felt it was a step up over the standards, sounded awesome for my repertoire, and it amplified better than my Marquis. However, I didn't like the neck. It was too thin for me.

"Brighter" and "more lively" would fit with my "balanced" ... some have suggested "more Taylor-ish" ... which is a good thing to my ears.
I like the neck too ... |

I don't think bright is the word. I have an OM-28MD. When I think bright, I think Taylor & Collings. The MDs still have the Martin tone, but maybe more clarity in the mid range, where Martins tend to get muddy. A little more volume & clarity.

The D18 MD I played was BRIGHT ! Not to my tastes at all. The OM28MD I played for about 5 minutes was wonderful....not sure what any of that means except decide your yourself.

My 000-28MD reminds me of a Martin and a Goodall combined.
I haven't played the 000-18MD but I am sure it's a great guitar as well.

If you think the ubiquitous Martin MLO neck is too thick, you'll love those on the MDs.
At least in my experience on a D28 MD, the neck carve was asymmetrical, meaning it was thicker on the bass side of the equator, and thinner on the south side. I frankly hated it; already not a fan of the MLO, this seemed thinner yet. For the record, I love the thicker U-shape neck on the 70's Martins, or at least the V-neck on a few different modern models.
