If your project involves making one, I can point you to the web archive of my old website where there is lap steel construction information and a couple of free pdf plans loosely based on the Oahu Tonemaster laps.

Lap Steel construction information

If you want to "Go big, or go home..." you might think about lap with benders:

Nicely done on both accounts. I like the articulation on the first and the pedal steel styling on the second. Notice that its the same make and model of guitar and both have palm pedals... Same player?

Troy Brenningmeyer's Youtube channel is chock full of free ideas and lessons, particularly as applied to bender-equipped lap steel. He discusses Certano and Duesenberg benders fairly often.

Here's a very nice video that explains how to play a lot of those pedal steel influenced licks:

AND... There's nothing preventing anyone from throwing Certano
G and B benders on an old Tele:

Darn I hate this site. Now I want a lap steel with benders. Does this never end?

I have an old 50's Silvertone. It sounds great, and I can get sorta that effect using a volume pedal (which I'm pretty sure he is using also) but that was next level.

Thanks for posting OP.

"Harvest Moon" is done by Luke Cyrus Goetze, while "Can't find My Way Home is done by Troy Brenningmeyer. Both are using Dusenberg lap steels with string benders. I guess they also shop at the same clothes store. I watch both of their channels regularly, and have taken some of Troy's lessons for Weissenborn.

I do admit a bit of lust for one of the Dusenberg's, but I don't play electric qall that often and have a nice early 50s Gibson BR-6 for when I do.

For those interested in steel guitar of any type (pedal, lap, acoustic, etc.), please note that Fretboard Journal now hosts a podcast dedicated to steel aficionados. Each episode will feature a different maker, olayer, or type of steel and is totally entertaining.

HERE is the latest installment, featuring Raphael McGregor.
