Default Dovetail

John has routed the dovetail pocket. Check out the precision on rim miter where the two sides meet…

The beautiful two tone heartwood landscaping of the Malaysian Blackwood rims can be seen set against the Gaboon Ebony end graft framed by John’s mitered flamed Maple purflings.

Default Neck Set

Simple Gaboon Ebony bindings with white purflings and short pattern diamond and squares position markers.

Fitting the neck to the dovetail joint. Check out how well he executed that miter joint on the rims…

Beginning to look like a guitar…

I wonder if John could make you a Lucite neck, so that you could see all that pretty MBW turning the corner? It almost seems a shame to cover it over with that opaque Mahogany.

Default The things that luthiers do to amuse themselves…

Fretting with Jescar EVO 0.043” x 0.080” wire.

John’s method has a large support bag of lead shot under the neck, and a box of shot in top too!

The Partridge Family album cover to mask the guitar top is an absolute art piece!

Default Pretty Rims

John has five guitars ready for finish including mine seen in the middle (left to right: Madagascar Rosewood, Brazilian Rosewood, Malaysian Blackwood and two Macassar Ebony). He is waiting for more conducive weather to spray nitro.

Here’s a wider view showing all 13 guitars being built in his shop including Juston’s Style 34 seen on the top shelf.

Looking great Bob. I have mentioned before how much I think of John and his guitars. Wow having a big batch like that is really something. I usually have four going at any particular stage but usually only two that are side by side in the process and that is about as much as I can keep track up, never mind 13!

Wow, 13 guitars at one time! Never seen anything like that in the custom shop threads! All exceptionally beautiful, too

Default Out of the Spray Booth

John has finished his application of nitrocellulose lacquer and the long drying process has begun. While in shop photos are always a challenge, John was kind enough to forward a few. The curly Maple top purfling can be seen against German Spruce soundboard (left) and the landscaped heartwood and sapwood of the Malaysian Blackwood back are beginning to show.

Instead of traditional Nazarethesque (I invented a word) Ivoroid plastic, John used some curly Maple in both the rosette and top purflings.

My neck is the one all the way on the right.
