I don't have a dog, but just wanted to say congratulations on your retirement and newfound time to play guitar, and to play with your furry friend.

OP here. That is a handsome Aussie, with a "look" I know so well.
Our Rusty is a year and a half old Aussie, the third of the breed we have owned. Love them.

Thank you Keven for the kind sentiment.

My Chocolate Lab stays on the floor, but it's my wife who does that when I've been playing too long.

congrats on retirement and yes, my mixed breed dog Frank pulls the same kind of shenanigans by putting his nose under my elbow and lifting to get my attention.

Mine is my biggest (and probably only) fan. Sits at my feet when I play. And she even hangs around on string change day. Now that’s loyalty.

I have not retired from heaving the jurisprudence rock around with me; and have 3 rescue beagles:

SHELBY BEAGLE: Runs off when the J45 comes out (the growl really is worse than the bite)
ALICE BEAGLE: comes and curls up at my feet and falls asleep.
STANLEY BEAGLE: could care less!

From the pet’s perspective, well, have you SEEN the way your fingers are wiggling around? Shouldn’t you be doing that around their ears, chest, and just above the tail???

My cat pretty much likes bluegrass in general. However, she is will get up from lounging on the nearby bed and get affectionate as soon a I start playing O'Carolan pieces or Ashokan Farewell on my mandolin. She just observes when I'm playing guitar.

I work from home and I'm in my office ten hours a day working.
Other than to let me know she needs to go out, Emmie (black) never comes into my office while I'm working. But, the minute I pick up my guitar no matter what time of day it is she knows I'm no longer working and seems to think I should be available to play or at least give her some attention. It never fails.

Odie (white) on the other hand is a fan. He likes to sit in my office when I play and likes to sit right in front of my amp when I play electric.

Actually, for 40 years I represented people with physical and mental infirmities in order to secure for them medical and financial benefits they were entitled to but were denied by governmental and insurance interests. I found that work deeply rewarding. Music is also precious to me (50+ years as a jazz winds musician), but that has been more of a guilty pleasure. Like the guitar.
