It is amazing how quickly a thread gets a few pages back in this forum!
I buffed the walnut/redwood box this morning and expect the neck will follow in short order. Probably glue the two piece together into a guitar by sundown! |

Update?
Bruce--Any new developments in the walnut-sinker redwood WRX? It was looking fabulous! --Richard

Yes Richard, it is as you suspect, I am playing the guitar without having actually finished it. Still lacks the PG and the truss rod cover. I'll post pics when I've done that, but today is Sunday! Here is me playing East Neuk of Fife with a flatpick into two Nady mics and plugged into an Alesis iO2 usb'd into my iMac with GarageBand. No editing whatsoever, take a deep breath :

This could have been Cooley's Reel if it hadn't slipped my mind that I was recording, but it surely shows what the guitar can sound like.

Here are three shots of the front in less than ideal lighting, but it'll give you some perspective, I imagine:
And a few more in the Sun: I have no committed buyer for this guitar and cannot afford to keep it, so please inquire if you've a mind to. As a WRX it is relatively within your financial grasp. |

It's beautiful, Bruce! What is the scale length? I read through the thread but didn't see it. Apologies if I missed it.

Chales, It's 25.4" I have not been able to reply to your recent PM as admin says you don't allow PM's! I doubt this, but that's what's happening, so here's he text:
I better reread that, you certainly caught my mistake! I build MUCH thinner than most, I'm told. Tuc does very well for me around .075 on the back. But I only measure afterwards and sometimes. Just learn to make it feel right is my advice. In the long run you'll be so far ahead of the pack they won't ever catch up. Look for it to not quite feel floppy is the best I can tell. So, for the rest of you, here's the truss rod cover and PG, and also some more musical foolishness (Grasshopper sitting on a Sweet Potato Vine) on this Walnut guitar: |

Tuners
Bruce, what kind of tuners are those? I really like the look of them.

Bruce - I know exactly what happened; I went into my forum profile yesterday to set it to send me an e-mail when I receive an IM. It seems I somehow also managed to turn off IM altogether. That’s embarrassing. Who knows how long I would have gone without discovering that had you not brought it to my attention! Apologies for the hassle.
Anyway, thanks very much for the info on Tuc thickness. I’m going to follow your example and top it with Italian Alpine spruce. What could possibly be better?! I love that Walnut / redwood! Very classy looking. I have a thing for the appearance of sinker RW tops with character... Charles |

The guitar featured in this thread has come back to me and is available. This is because I had for several years refused to make Tom a Walnut/Redwood instrument despite his begging me repeatedly. So then, having subsequently built one as documented herein, he asked me to send it to him for comparisons sake. And he liked it so much he traded the Blackwood/Redwood in on it. He is wrong, of course, the one I made for him is far and away superior, but you know how it is when you want something really badly and overlook the truth that is right in front of you . . . actually the Walnut guitar is magnificent, but the Blackwood one is here, and it is at least as good and much more impressive to look at. I got an amazingly good deal on it and will share that with you if you think you'd like to own it. A great opportunity.
