Anyone got a tonerite I could borrow?
We know how it works - you get a new guitar or a sleepy old one, buy the Tonerite thing and give it a go to see what it can do for ya, and then tuck it away in a box somewhere for the next long long time basically never to be seen again. I’ve got a new Collings OM1 I’m looking to break in - anyone got a Tonerite I could borrow or rent off ya? I’ll pay you what it’s worth to you! But better than me buying one to just add to the pile of dusty tonerites when I reach that same point haha.
Thanks! |

Welcome to the forum Rileto.
It might help if you give an idea of your location. I have a Tonerite but I doubt you're in Australia. |

That’s fair haha. I am out in Oakhurst California, so not exactly proximal to Australia, no. Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been a silent observer for years!

I have a Tonerite that I’ve loaned out in the past but without any street creds here, how would I know that I’d ever get it back from you?
How about sending me that new Collings of yours for a tryout and I’ll spend some real time breaking it in properly? When it’s ready, I’ll send it back to you with my Tonerite?

You can make your own out of an aquarium pump and weather stripping foam for about $10.

I did this and it seemed to work.

Or you could just play the crap out of the guitar and let it wake up on it's own!

I did this too and can't really say I heard a big difference but it was a cheap experiment. It sure didn't hurt anything and I wasn't about to pay $100 for a real one.

First time I've heard of something like this. Do you have a link with instructions?

Peel and stick a piece of the weather stripping a little wider than your string spacing to the flat part of the pump (the $8 kind you can get at Walmart) . Make 6 slits in line with the strings. The slits will keep it on the strings so it doesn't vibrate across the top of your guitar. I put it up close to the bridge. You have to lay the guitar flat on its back unless you rig up some way to hold it on upright. Plug her in. Pretty simple.

I’ve never used a Tonerite but I fully believe they do what they say they do and if you can nudge your guitar along a few years of break-in why not?

I finally bought one last year used. If your like me, you will have another guitar you’ll want to use it on in the future. Look for one used and you’ll have it for the next time or for bringing guitars out of hibernation mode.
