Fret work near South Bend, Indiana
I've got a Taylor 322ce I bought in 2016 that needs re-fretting. About 10-12 frets need some level of work. Some need replacing and some could be re-crowned. Probably a mix of both. I assume I would need a new nut as a result of the new frets and me lowering my action over time as the old frets wore down.
Sweetwater HQ is a short drive away and quoted $649 for nickel refret and $749 for stainless steel. Full fret replacement. Does that seem in the ballpark? I assume the originals are nickel. Any other options near South Bend? Thanks for your help. |

Chicago is pretty near South Bend.
Third Coast Guitar Repair full re-fret $450-500 (but call & talk first!) https://www.thirdcoastguitar.com/ https://www.thirdcoastguitar.com/repair-estimates

Sweetwater does good work, but is not a bargain. Maybe 7 or 8 years ago, before prices started to run up, they replaced 5 frets and did a Plek for me for about $400, split about equally between refret and Plek. (Guitar still plays well.)

I think that's on the high side of the ball park, but not out of the ballpark. My "local" shop charges $30 a fret, so that would be $600 for the whole thing.

I know they will do great work. They told me they wouldn't replace a few frets and crown the others. They told me they would only replace them all. That would lead to an overall better solution but I was pretty surprised at the estimates. Maybe that's what it's gonna cost me.

Elderly would probably do good work.
