Default NOLLD...?

New Old Lava Lamp Day... x2!

Someone said you've got to have a lava lamp in the control room. I've had one in my home studio for a while. When my son move out of the house he left his 14" yellow wax in clear oil lamp and I re-tasked it. Then about a month ago one of the studio control rooms in our facility was demolished for an update and the engineer who works there had to move out. He had inherited a collection of lava lamps and didn't want to store them during construction so he passed to me a 16" lamp with black furniture, navy blue oil, and little sparklies. It's a little dark but we'll call it "mysterious." I don't have a pic but it now graces the producer's desk in my control room at work.

And then the other day my daughter-in-law announced on Facebook that she was remodeling a room and wanted to ditch a lava lamp. Couldn't let it go to waste! Unfortunately the base was loose and a bit floppy. I attempted to tighten it up but the threaded collar that held the lamp socket and the rest of the base together was made of pot metal and broke. Thankfully my previous lamp's base fit it so I was able to combine parts from the two for a debut until I can find a new base or a new lamp socket. This one is a 14" clear oil lamp with large red sparklies. The heat from the lamp generates lots of movement that causes lots of flashes and swirl that make the lamp very interesting to watch. I really like this one.

(Slide and Deluxe Reverb sold separately)

It is fun to inherit!

Bob

To me, lava lamps have always looked like the embodiment of a 60Hz hum.

Gotta love AGF, such a vast storehouse of knowledge. Now remember to consider "room reflections" when positioning it, and make sure and post an LLER (Lava Lamp Enhanced Recording) ,,,, sample

"sparkle"/'glitter' lamps don't count - only true lava lamps!
