Funny you should mention pedicure because the first thing I do before French polishing a guitar is cut my nails short. One slip of an errant fingernail while French polishing can set me back days!
So at this stage the guitar is sealed with egg and I start applying the unbleached shellac which is diluted in 200 proof ethanol alcohol. I do not use any type of oil in this process doing a Woodsman guitar:

The old growth Redwood top was milled over a 100 yrs ago and it just rings and rings. I went with the really old Bog Oak on the binding, fretboard, end graft, bridge and headstock overlay. The saddle and nut are going to be mammoth tusk which is even older than the Bog Oak! My motto on the 00 Woodsman is “if it looks and sounds old it is because it is old”. I think that holds more true with this particular Woodsman than any of the others I built (so far). Mark

Red White and Blue
I hope everyone is enjoying this 4th of July weekend! I thought this might be a good time to give a progress update on the Red, White and Blue grand auditorium I am bringing to BIG. The sealing is done and the first gloss coat is on. The figure and true colors are starting to show!

Thanks John, I’m looking forward to the show. It looks like there are going to be a number of very fine guitars to be seen there!
