Be sure to test out an Electro-Voice N/D 767a Pretty awesome for the $
Head and shoulders above an SM-58.

chitz, any idea how the Behringer XM8500 would compare with the Electro-Voice?

As Chris stated vocal mics are so vary completely user specific that said if economical means cheap. Then in all honesty it does not matter just get the cheapest mic you find . If economical means a good value per dollar then it's budget range specific . Good economical stage mics include ones already stated plus I,ll add Sure Beta 87! Heil PR 35 , But actually there are a plethora of relly good economical value per dollar mics from about $200 to $500 from almost all major mfg's Senn ,Audix , ADK, AKG, EV, Best to decide on a budget and go to GC or Sam Ash etc. and spend a couple hours A/B ing everything in your price range.
