CigarFan's 2020 Cuban/German 0
it's been pointed out to me that I have been documenting this January 2020 build in a thread labeled 2019. Well, this'll be a bit of pro bono work, but I will migrate the pertinent post over here and carry on in these new digs. If things go sideways, that thread is HERE.

Thank goodness a regular AGF poster lives near enough to visit, it makes me a little more certain that I actually exist. Happy New year to all!
The set of Cuban that Tad refers to is slated for the next build, which should get the new year off to a great start. CigarFan has asked me to deliver this to him at BIG(er) even though I believe he could have it a few weeks earlier. That means that if you attend the event you will be among the first to see both my current build, the Penngrove, and my next build! Here's a preview of the set of Cuban mahogany for the next build: Closer so you can make out the flame: |

Today I begin my first commissioned piece of the new decade . . . unless you're one of those people who think the 20's start next year. My wife and I have argued seriously about that twice, and on opposite sides each time. Actually!
The first move for me in the guitar making process, after choosing the materials, is to join the plates. These are Cuban mahogany and German spruce courtesy of Martin Guhl. While these plates could be making another Penngrove or even a D, this will be a single 0. |

My next step is to surface the plates so I can see what I've really got, and then template them. Here are the templated plates in both natural and indoor light.

Gee, nothing like a bit of pressure to perform!
I have no template for any bracing pattern, and instead draw it onto each top directly. This allows my subconscious to direct subtle metamorphosis of The Work. Here's the rosette Tad was so kind as to document the creation of: The 1/16" bit Tad referred to is actually .055", not .062". There must be some problem with his eyes. |

The top is ready to receive the ribs/sides. German top/Adi braces. Jatoba bridge plate: the toughest wood I’ve ever encountered.
There ares several species involved in my go-bar deck. The dish is not one of them as it is one of the few things on the planet that Medium Density Partical-board is ideally suited for, IMO. Mostly, I don’t allow it in my home/shop environment. Adi braces again. |

Happy New Year!
Excellent....everything is in order. I can go to bed looking out on the very dark Snake River.
Continue to be awesome. Every day is a blessing!

That's a unique looking set of cuban, such contrast between the early and late growth lines.

Beautiful guitar taking shape. Judging by the last photo that lovely mahogany thinks that it is walnut!

If you're talking to Dennis, he could do that. He should have this piece by mid-March.

I love that this side, right out of the fox bender, fits this well with no coercion whatsoever:
