Murray,

Here in the US, we generally pair higher with lower, or taller with shorter. There may be exceptions, but I can't think of any.
OK, but in that case what would be the opposite of "longer" ?

Tall/short is for vertical dimensions, long/short is for horizontal.

What do you think of the song "Long Tall Sally"?

Good points - It had occurred to me that fitting wider tangs would cumulatively have the effect of adding backbow pressure to the neck, but you've clarified that the slots would be recut for the wider tang, so that makes sense.

Thanks Steve;;

Incidentally, for the me the most interesting point raised in the video was the problem of the nut height potentially caused by adding taller/newer frets, and what he'd have done in that event. Also, the decision process for whether to refret or relevel/crown, based on multiple factors, was a learning experience that shows why so much of this stuff is best done by the experienced who have already learned from mistakes!

I defer to your superior knowledge of US English, bausin.

It's just that it would ring really strange in my Brit-conditioned ears to hear somebody say "My nut slots are too short" , rather than saying "My nut slots are too low" ... but there you go ... two countries separated by a common language, as George Bernard Shaw famously said.

Gotta love Little Richard! Or "Vertically Challenged Richard" as the politically correct Brit press would have dubbed him nowadays
