6 String Banjo - anyone build a neck?
Hi All
I'm looking around for a different project while my lacquer cures... I would like to build a neck to convert my RK80 resonator banjo to a 6 string just for the fun of it. I think that it would be wholly reversible, I already have a 6 string tailpiece and a bridge. Has anyone done this? |

Look over your hardware and geometry, and if things work, why not go for it? modern banjo necks are bolt-ons/
I suspect the only real consideration is width of the board where it meets the tension hoop, and the amount of fingerboard radius necessitating appropriate bridge configuration. Don't forget the "normal" orientation is to have the board (not including frets) about level with the head in that area. You can cut the end of the neck extra narrow to squeeze it in between the hooks or notch it around them. . .
