WOW...that's a beautiful guitar... I look forward to seeing and hearing it up close at B.I.G.

Thanks so much, David. It's always fun coming up with something a bit different, something unavailable from the supply houses. On this design, to get a good "pale" color, we used strips cut off the Port Orford top edges. They match the top as you might expect--perfectly.

Thanks doodah! Unfortunately this one isn't making it to BIG.

Jamie(ThePatienceOfJob)Joon has displayed the essence of long-suffering while we wrestled against the clock for our B.I.G. Guitars. Well, the little Walnut 00 left the building yesterday, which means today was freed up for this and that.
This:

And that:

Not long now...thanks again Jamie!
And thanks all for dropping by.

Hey, no suffering, Mon. Enjoying the anticipation. The Kinnaird team (and their secret manservant Mathis) have other works of art to prepare for the worthy at BIG, and I am cool with that.

One thing that surprised me about THIS guitar was that I expected the Port Orford Cedar to be darker under finish, a little closer in color to the Osage. I imagine everything will darken over time, and get closer in color.

This one touches all the buttons! What a nice guitar. You are a lucky man Jamie. If I know Steve and Ryan (and I do), the tone will blow you away. Good luck getting anything else done for a while after this arrives.

Jamie, you aren't the only one anxious to see your guitar done. I think I am typically as anxious as my customer to see, hold, and strum the strings of a new build. I make great progress for a week or two then other projects or guitars take over. I'm not sure how it would be to start a single guitar and work straight through on it until done! Your beauty is almost on your doorstep!

Thanks Dennis for those kind remarks. I think Jamie already has an impressive collection, and this latest guitar will have to jostle its way into its own position among some older siblings. Fingers crossed over here!

Right you are, Ken. We're pretty excited about this guitar. Strings should go on tomorrow, and we'll get our first sampling of Port Orford Cedar over Osage. (What an unusual sentence. Luthiers and guitar players speak an interesting lingo.) Thanks for stopping by!

Steve

I'd been wondering where this one had gone and now here it is finished!

Beautiful work, guys--will we get to hear it soon?

Yippee!! We're close now.

Steve, what strings do you favor on a big geetar like this?

Steve better do a video, because I am too technologically incompetent to do it and anyway I'm not sure you all would want to hear me.

We are close, Jamie. We strung this (and braced it) for lights. On some SJ's with a top like this, I might suggest mediums, or medium-lights. Of course, your fun will be in experimentation, but we did some A/B-ing with another SJ in the shop today that IS strung with mediums. You guitar spanked the other one.
And your SJ had strings on for what? maybe an hour... Even being a new-born,
it is loud, responsive and balanced. And of all the domestic species we've used, the Osage sounds the most like rosewood so far. Going out on a limb here, but I predict you're going to like this!
