Only discovered him a few years ago when listening to various versions of Wildwood Flower. His version with Emmylou Harris and Iris DeMent is still my favorite and I’ve incorporated many of his embellishments into the version I play. RIP.

I saw him in the '80s in the family Revue then near 2000 opening for Dwight Yoakam...one of the fastest, cleanest pickers I've ever heard...

That's sad news. His playing was beautiful; I first heard him on the "Will the Circle be Unbroken" album; his instrumental version of "Clouds" was a stand out on an album loaded with standouts.

One of my late mother's favorite movies of all times was a film set in Deep Gap, NC called "Where the Lilies Bloom"; I recall that Randy did much of the soundtrack for that film.

Just got on iTunes and bought it, listened to the preview and that nailed it for me!

Sad to hear the news about Randy. I remember the live at K-State album with Randy's picking on "Both Sides Now", which has remained one of my favorite songs. Been working on Randy's version off and on for the last couple of months. RIP Randy.
