Dust on guitars
So this is an odd question, but my acoustic guitar is a DRS1, which is mahogany. I love the dark colored wood, but it seems to quickly accumulate dust on the body of the guitar, and on the fret board. I don't have any pets except a hamster, so animal dandruff isn't the problem. Any suggestions, or should I consider polishing it like once a week or something (or just ignore the dust haha)

My guitar's stay cased and clean. Dust happens but I wipe my guitars down after every job and home-playing prior to re-caseing. If you leave it out, it will get dusty. Just wipe it down after playing. Using a non-staticky wiping cloth/rag will help to not attract dust.

Agreed, I wipe my guitars down after playing and keep them in their case. If you are already doing that, maybe your case is dusty and needs to be vacuumed.

Use one of those electro-static dusters you buy at any grocery store, Wal Mart or Target. Or how about a swiffer? Those would all work well.
I will say it's hard to imagine a guitar getting that dusty in a week. I have two Sunbursts with dark tops sitting on stands and they don't accumulate enough dust so as to be visible in a week.

First rule of online guitar forums: never admit to having a dusty guitar.
The shame of it all!

Dude, if your guitar is gathering dust... You need a maid.

I have 5 guitars sitting out in different rooms all over the house...not counting my granddaughter's Yamaha FG Jr...
Swiffer is my friend, besides which my wife and I don't let dust accumulate all over them or anything else in the house...

I would say don't worry about it but since you've made the thread, it's obvious that you already worry about it.
It sounds like your house accumulates dust very fast, does this happen with other surfaces? But yea, like others have said, play it more.

Tiny particles of dust are probably blowing in from outside. Try to put your guitar in a room that doesn't have open windows. You can also buy a cheap air purifier that would reduce the dust significantly.

If you check the air filter to your blower on the air cond. or furnace, it could be dirty & needs a new one.
No matter how often you dust, if air blower comes on & filter is dirty, it just blows dust all around the house. |

Haha, so true. I play daily, but grad school eats up a lot of time, summer classes are about to end though so I will play a lot more then hopefully.
I usually leave it open in it's case, so maybe I should try the obvious and just close the case in between playings although for whatever reason that makes me nervous.
