The last lab was Dwayne's in Parsons, Kansas, where I'm still sending my film. I shot Kodachrome to the bitter end in 2010, and sent the last dozen or so rolls from Tokyo just before the final deadline.

As for misheard lyrics, in America the Beautiful, "from sea to Chinese sea" in place of "from sea to shining sea." In My Country 'Tis of Thee, "stand beside her and guide her through the night with the light from a bulb" in place of "with a light from above."

A Frank Zappa lyric misheard by a friend, "whatever you can do to have a good time let's get on with it so long as it doesn't cost a burger." He felt silly when I explained that it was "so long as it doesn't cause a murder." From The Jazz Discharge Party Hats on The Man From Utopia (featuring Steve Vai).

Someone made a mistake when they transcribed the words to Come Together by John Lennon and wrote “hold you in his armchair, you can can feel his disease” instead of “hold you in his arms...”. John liked it better than the original, so it stuck!

Playing guitar in a dozen on-and-off garage bands since the 1970s, I've performed a variety of rock/blues/pop songs - but never this one.

Today, with progressive hearing loss and non-stop screaming tinnitus, my electric rock band days are over. But if I were compelled to venture down that road again, this tune would always be the final song of the last set.

Moving forward a few decades from my CCR mis-hearing...
In about 2009, I had taken up acoustic guitar again and belatedly began paying attention to the lyrics of Dire Straits' Romeo and Juliet. What I THOUGHT I heard in most versions, on CD or YouTube, was "...All I do is kiss you through the bars of Orion" instead of the simpler (and ostensibly correct) "...through the bars of a rhyme." Mark Knopfler's pronunciation seemed to add the extra syllable in many live versions of the song.

This was apparently so widely misunderstood that it spawned multiple online commentaries (some quite technical) about all facets of reference to the "bars of Orion" in astronomical, spiritual and/or historical lore. E.g., the stars making up the bars (or belt) of Orion being replicated by the placement of pyramids in Giza. And on and on. Truly, it would be easy to get lost in the topic.

Cheers,

Dirk

As a child, when I played my 45 RPM record of Davy Crockett, instead of, “from grassy plains to the mountain crest,” I heard:

From crashing planes to the mountain's crest.

Later, when I moved on to, Puff the Magic Dragon, instead of “Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail,” I heard:

on a boat to Ithbillowsale. (I presumed it was some mythical land.)

Band on the run verse 2.

If I ever get out of here
Thought of giving it all away to a registered charity
All I need is a pint a day if I ever get out of here
If we ever get out of here

I always sang it "Cigarettes' to charity"

Lucile was a bit naughty - she left four hundred children and a crop in the field.

Was Sheryl Crow advocating dodgy substances when she sang 'If it makes you wappy, it can't be that bad'?

I thought it was "too rich for charity". I was a kid and remember a pizza restaurant every time we went I'd get a quarter from my parents and play this on the jukebox. Loved that song (still do).

There's been a few times as I learn songs and say, oh wow, that's what they say!

I started noticing these things when it became necessary to learn lyrics to when perform. There are often surprises in what you end up singing versus what you've always heard.
the painful condition is also mentioned in Hotel California :

On a dark desert highway, Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitis - rising up through the air

Much loved British singer Billy Ocean (70) was on a chat show recently, and they were making fun and several of his lyrics commonly misheard:

I'll not put a link here, as this is very "British" humour, often misunderstood here, so I'll just say that on YouTube a video of misheard lyrics by Peter Kay may amuse - not for the overly sensitive.

My enduring memories are of "You Picked a Fine time to leave me Louise" with four hundred children and a croc in the field"

and Bohemian Rhapsody with the line "sparing his life for his pork sausages"

The chorus of ELO's Don't Bring Me Down.

Don't bring me down, groos
Don't bring me down, groos
Don't bring me down, groos
Don't bring me down....

Groos???? I thought it was Ruth - what the heck is groos?

When I was a little kind I thought the Dylan song "It ain't me babe" was "It ain't ea-sy - no, no, no, it ain't ea-sy".

I can recall some concert footage where Jimi actually points a Noel Redding as he says, "Scuse me while I kiss this guy!"

It's kind of groos to find half a worm in your apple.
