For me, it's Miles Davis' 'Sketches of Spain' on repeat - best wall painting music there is.

I am stuck in the 80's, with slight drift into the late 70's and early 90's.

I always listen to that music, usually not while doing household chores but always while cutting the lawn and doing car repairs etc.

Sirius XM channel 80's on 8 is my favorite as well as Classic Rewind (cassette era rock)

I discovered "New Age" music after college, and usually have Windham Hill and Narada samplers playing in the background. Also a fan of Wind Machine and Checkfield.

This may sound a bit weird... But I don't tend to "listen" to music in the traditional sense when just doing "stuff". I have music playing in my head 24/7. Rarely pop and never rap or anything of the redundant stuff that folks are popping out today. I can't stand that sophomoric dribble long enough to have it enter my mental juke box. When I do listen to music it is active and all-encompassing. But interestingly, I never focus on lyrics and can probably only recite the hooks of songs, but never the full text. I can't be doing anything else when listening to music.

Mostly the Dead, and some Sam Bush if I stay at the chores long enough.

Vin, there is medication for that condition, but no 12-Step Program that I'm aware of.

If there's a medication- I'm probably already on it. Mercifully no pain meds or psychogenics of any kind.

OT: I have to LOL at you guys who claim you don't do chores. Did your parents enable you or do you have somebody to pick up after you?

Cooking or the dishes, it varies. NPR. Jazz. The Daily Show.

Something energetic like cleaning: The J. Geils Band "Full House" fits the bill...

I can't put on music while I'm doing chores. If it's music I like than I have to stop and listen and wouldn't get anything done. No such thing for me as background music.

Here are a few of my faves. You choose rock or acoustic, or anything else:

1) "Good Times, Bad Times" -- Led Zep -- my absolute fave for the dishes
2) Ziggy Stardust (Bowie) -- the whole album
3) Anything by the Who

What are yours?

Chores ? I don't do chores ! and I certainly don't work on my car!

We do grow our own fruit and veggies which means there are always things to do, but I regard that kind of labour as pleasure.

I also cook, not as much as I used to but - for instance I cooked today.

Almost all my activities nowadays are accompanied by BBC talk radio (current affairs, drama, comedy, science, nature etc.,) and on occasions, a light classical channel.

But , after seeing this band last week, I played their cd today :

Interesting/fun question!

I sometimes put on Irish music. I particularly like to stream Irish radio stations that play Irish folk. I'll also listen to CKUA, right here in Alberta - I have always liked good, community radio. Sort of related, there's a site online called "Radio Garden", where I can listen to radio streams from across the globe - even St. Helena Island! Last week, I stumbled upon a station out of Trondheim, Norway, called "Arctic Outpost AM1270 - I think they play only old 78RPMs. Great stuff. Needless to say, I like a little background music, off the beaten path, when I'm doing the dishes!
