Too much fun here on AGF, guys. Better get back to our "what's the best bevel angle to cut into my $75 guitar pick for praise band?"

We did that in a band I was in about 12 years ago! Lots of fun, for sure.

Robert doesn't have the range either, anymore. Certainly not, when I saw him with Alison Krauss years ago.

That’s my understanding as well and that it was not something that Randy himself wanted to pursue.

If a precedent were ever set that a chord progression could be copyrighted, imagine all the lawsuits regarding C Am F G or just about any blues progression.

Everyone knows Stairway was plagiarized from Marvin Gaye. Just ask Ed Sheehan.

I think what bothers some folks is that LZ did lift and "repurpose" a great deal of material. They are certainly "guilty" of doing that. A minor line cliche does not fall into the same category. They are guilty of many things, but no one can be guilty of using a chromatic bass line that last a few measures.

When this case was being tried in a court in California, my friend and ex-college roommate's Taylor acoustic was used in the court room for someone (I forget who) to play both Stairway to Heaven and Taurus. He said that was as close to rock and roll stardom as he'd ever get.

Can anyone think of a pair of songs whose similarities are parallel to those of Stairway To Heaven and Taurus?

If the folks on the Supreme Court have never heard Stairway to Heaven, well that’s A good reason for term limits

In this day and age there's a fine line between "ripping off" and "reinterpreting." It's all in how you market it. It's a real shame that the Supremes of any kind were involved in this discussion.
