Default ■ McNally Handcrafted Irish Guitar - available again

2017 McNally OM in Sitka and Zebrano
$2800 net to me (one way or another) for fellow AGFers.

If you like smaller shop Irish guitars like Lowden, McIlroy or Avalon you may love this rare and hard-to-find McNally - especially at this price. He only makes a handful each year and they get gobbled up before making it to USA. As you might expect, it's beautifully crafted with restrained decorations and has that warm, mid-rich and slightly woody Irish tone - very balanced in timbre and volume string-to-string, fingered or picked. Size is about 1/8" deeper Martin OM, 1-3/4" nut, full scale. In like-new condition with nice action and Hiscox Pro case.

[edit] See links to video recordings in message #6 below.

Of course, I'd be glad to answer any questions. I can respond most quickly to direct email, so feel free to contact me that way or include your email for reply - even send a phone number and best time to call if you prefer.

Nice! Never played one but I understand Ciaran does great work. Here’s a link to his site:

Good luck with the sale!

Ciaran McNally makes wonderful guitars, and they are very rare outside Ireland.

Had cold feet about parting with this - deleted - but back on the market. Grab it before I change my mind again.

Beautiful! I like simply adorned guitars showing the beauty of the woods. Do you have any finger picked soundclips?

I make horrible recordings, but I found a couple videos of similar McNally OMs with good recordings:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWisFjpj-lw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6stqbRLS26Y

While exhibiting differences resulting from different woods, these display variations within a clear family resemblance. Between those two, my spruce/zebrano one is most similar to the walnut one, but with a touch less walnut dryness and a touch more of the higher harmonics as might be expected from the rosewoody-toned zebrano - otherwise it shares the overall family traits. Notes: He opens with flatpick, but does fingerpicking in D and standard tuning also for a good representation. While these guitars are more mid-warm than bright, IMO the videos are just a touch bass'y.

My recording attempts tend to make guitars sound like ... well let's just say they don't represent a guitar nicely. Those videos give a much better impression than my recording is likely to. That being said, just send me a PM or email and I will try to attach my best effort at a sample to a reply.

Can’t believe this hasn’t been snatched up yet! I have a Kelday from an Irish builder and man, it’s fantastic. Rich overtones and amazing balance.

Can’t believe someone hasn’t grabbed it yet - especially at this price & condition . . . therefore, a bump.

RE: trades
While the interest with trade offers have been appreciated, I'm not really interested in acquiring another guitar. But (AGF folks probably know all about "but") ... there's a chance I could be tempted by a very nice small guitar (00 max) that compliments the tones of my other guitars.
