Nice to see Brandi Carlile come away with some recognition. She's been making good music for quite some time now and deserves it. Her Bear Creek album is my favorite. Much more of an acoustic vibe to it, and some really strong songs.

This ^^ ..I'm completely underwhelmed by the laptop-as-an-instrument concept...

I was likewise unimpressed with the term "turntable-ist" I heard the other day...apparently that's a "musician" who manipulates a record on a turntable as his "instrument"...

Please...

I also "cut the chord" many moons ago, but my 16 year old daughter watched every second! Not sure is that speaks well of it or not.

Well-deserved too! Sarah Jarosz picked up two last year, which pleased me a lot. It's always good to see true musicians getting some recognition.

Such award shows are usually pretty dire - dominated by non-musicians plagiarising earlier works and I hesitate to even call them "singers". As for the non-televised parts of the show, it's the same over here in the UK when our biggest annual musical event, Glastonbury, is on: next to nothing from the acoustic stages.
