Smile Gurian S2R or S3R FOUND ON OTHER SITE

THANKS TO EVERYONE ON AGF WHO HELPED

I am looking for a Gurian S2R (preferred) or S3R in players grade condition without cracks, major fret wear, or other significant needs beyond a set-up. Does not need to be pristine and can have nicks, dings, finish wear, etc. I am looking for the usual 1 5/8” nut.

I have a 1965 Guild F-30 sunburst or a couple of small Larrivees might be willing to part with. I would also consider a straight purchase.

PLEASE PM me if you have one to sell or trade.

I don’t have one to sell you but, as the proud owner of a ‘78 JR, why you are looking for a specific Gurian.

They are great guitars with their own sound and plenty of professional playing chops. Hope you found what you’re looking for!

Someone get this fellow a Gurian!

A rosewood Gurian is a thing of beauty. I believe the S2R is in the shortest supply of any model, but best of luck in your search.

After all this time, I’m still awestruck by the sonority of my S3R3H. These days, it chimes like a bell with its Nashville strings. Of course, it had real gravitas with standard strings — lots of projection — but since I experimented with high-stringing it, I have no plans to go back.

Life was simpler when Michael Gurian began his adventure.

AVLguy, in 2012, when my wife and I were looking to replace her stolen 1964 0-18, we called Gryphon Strings, about an hour away from us, and asked if they had one. They said no, but they’d keep an eye out for one and let us know if one came in. A few weeks later we were sitting in their big room playing the 0-18 you see in my sig line. At the time I wasn’t carrying the AGF mantle (yoke?), so I didn’t think to ask if they had done any work on it to bring it to the state of perfection we found it in, or if it just came to them that way. I just marveled at what was in my hands.

Message: call around to prominent shops. True, Gurians are not in the millions like Martins, but these days I don’t think anyone lets a Gurian deteriorate.

Follow the Gurian diaspora. Start with Michael Millard (recently retired from Froggy Bottom; I’m sure he or someone there has a bead on some Gurian or other).

Also, there are some guys who still do Gurian neck resets. They’re bound to come across them. I saw one on YouTube a while back. This one — his business is called String Tech (stringtech.net) — contains a Who’s Who of Gurian-adjacent names:

https://youtu.be/NBmnax9veTY?si=1nu-wUgPWYni08Ov

There are still Gurian aficionados, collectors, and even a few hoarders. Not to be maudlin, but they can’t live forever.

You might even ask Michael Gurian, who is still around.

Won’t it be fun to find one in this decade? Good luck to you.

I’m happy you found your Gurian. That didn’t take long. It’s time to share it here. Model, date, its history, condition…
