Default Double sided tape for attaching pickgaurd

I know Stew mac sells sheets of it but I was wondering if there was something I could grab at the hardware store that would work just as well.
I looked at Lowes the other day but everything they had in stock was too thick.
Any ideas

The most heavy-duty kind of 3m double sided mounting
tape would hold anything on, but it is probably too thick.
I bet the kind made for holding on a pick guard is much
thinner and more appropriate...

The good stuff is more accurately called double sided adhesive, as there is no tape involved.
