Purfling cutter and my universal scraper with a top I made that split out during its build process a while back. ohh and the funky thing in the background is a Bassoon

The tool behind the scraper in post # 18 is what I always thought of as a gramil. It would have a pair of knives with a spacer to mark the plate where the purfling groove goes. Then you have to remove the material. I've always used a small chisel to do that, but the guided scraper would do it as well. I would not want to use only the scraper, as I can't see how it would make a clean cut across the grain. Maybe it works better for you than I could imagine it would.
