Default DEB Improv

Okay, I gave it a shot...I'm not much of a solo player (I play mostly to back up singing), so I did it in two parts. Here is my attempt at improvising a song from the three notes D, E, and B.

I like it. For some reason it reminds me of "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab For Cutie at the beginning.

Twenty Thousand Cousteaus Under the Sea (38mb ogg)

The three chords are DAFGCE, CGEbFBbD, and FCG#A#D#G (ie the same chord moved up and down).

This is one I did a while ago. The guitar is a bit rough in places but I never had time to go back and re-do it.

Thanks. The guitar on this one is a Taylor GA4. I had some time today, so I recorded the improv this morning.

Thanks, Dr. O. After noodling with the notes DEB, it was apparent that they would fit into the chords E, G and A, and the fingering allowed them to be played together easily, so that's all it is. I have never heard of Death Cab, so I'll have to look them up. The chord progression of EGA has been used in so many songs, that I'm not surprised that it sounds similar to something else.

Thanks, Cue. I was hesitant to do this because of the word "contest." I generally stay away from contests because music is a fun hobby for me and when people start saying "this is better than that" the fun disappears for me! I don't think your improv was anything less than what I did, different maybe, but not less. Therefore, my improv doesn't put yours to shame at all! In fact, having heard yours first, yours was still in my ears when I started, so I really had to try to find something different so that I wouldn't be copying you!

I do think it is interesting and educational for all of us to hear how different players approach these three notes, so that is why I decided to post something. I hope others post something stemming from DEB, too, so we can get yet other unique improvisation ideas. Keep them coming, folks!

No problem, Moon...I think the intent of this exercise is to use the three notes or chords given by someone else to come up with something. But, I did enjoy the piece you posted, even if it didn't evolve from DEB! It would be interesting to hear what someone else could do with the three chords you gave! Maybe someone will take that challenge.

I hereby bump this thread. If I need to provide three notes, please say so and I'll do it.
