Imagine what our musical world would be like if every performer was bound and determined to cultivate a marketable writer/artist image by only performing original material. Thank goodness that most of us are still moved enough by some "outside material" that we feel compelled to learn it and share it with our listeners. If that weren't the case, worthy material would be completely dependant on the mass media for any wide-spread circulation it gets.
