1977 Guild F40 Repair Work
Heres some more recent repair work out of Madsen Guitars.
1977 Guild F40 Before and After repair explanation Dovetail neck removed and ready for clean up- The heel and body on this Guild Acoustic are finished together so there will need to be Lacquer work to achieve a clean joint once reset. Shaving the bridge back to its original shape- instead of resetting the neck it had been sanded down as a short cut years ago. Doing this will make it easier to get the proper saddle-bridge pin angle. After the bridge shaping, Linseed Oil is applied to seal the Ebony. “After” Newly installed frets with proper crown as to achieve more accurate intonation. The finished neck-set is practically indistinguishable from its original state. The next time this neck needs to be reset, the repairman will not need to stress over the finish connection as the two parts are a seamed “dry joint” like how a Martin or Modern guitar is assembled. With the neck reset the proper angle has added new life to this vintage 1977 Guild More Pictures of the cleanly reset neck joint More finished shots of the bridge/saddle angle. Note: Yes I know some of the images are upside down and such. I'm still learning this platform and can't figure out how to get them the right side up. |

Those necks are a pain in the butt to get off too aren't they.

It could be the angle of the photos, but, that action looks crazy high in the after photos.
I see no wedge or shim of any form under the fretboard extension either, was this purchance a before photo. Steve

Shimming the fretboard tongue is not necessary with every neck reset.

Quote:
Every guitar that has a neck reset should have the extension shimmed for a nice flat fretboard, not doing so is IMO not doing the job to its completion and just stopping part way because one could not be bothered dealing with this part of the neck reset process. Steve

On this particular neck reset it was not an extreme enough ramp to require a shim.
