I'm new here

New guy here. Played at the guitar many years ago. I am retired now and working on getting the fingers working again.
I have an old Alvarez 5022 from the late 60s. It needs a little work but still sounds very good. It's a very nice copy of a Martin "D" style.

I encourage OP to haul his veteran guitar to a real luthier and get it ready to resume play. No fun fighting with an instrument, and adjustments can do wonders for playability.

Welcome and congrats on your retirement. I hope to be there this year as well. I have been a woodwinds player since I was 8, and always figured that the piano would be my retirement present. And then I bought a guitar. And I have discovered that it, like practicing law, is a jealous mistress. And so I went out and bought another.

I used to play folk music. Just chords and strumming along with singing.
My voice is way old now but my ear is still good.
I want to try finger picking and of course learn and get brains back in my fingers.
It will be an interesting trip...

Welcome...to AGF and retirement! I didn’t start playing until I retired a few years ago. Great to have the time to play an hour or two every day. Those fingers should start working for you again pretty quick.

The Alvarez is still surprisingly in very good condition.
Of course it needed new strings. I put on some Martin Flexible Silk and Phosphor. Wow they are nice.
The only other thing is my late brother reworked the nut and it is all wrong.
Easy to replace and setting up the action is something I can do.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

I also have a fairly old (early 80s) Alvarez. It's not quite as old as yours but it has a ton of miles on it. Still plays and sounds good.
