Default Built/Building a House? The Ballad of 38 Stonewall Lane

For anyone who has experienced the "joys" of building a house, or anyone who is foolishly thinking they'd like to build a house, here's a ballad i'm writing about our house build. It's currently 20 verses -- about 11 minutes long. Not finished yet ...

I am so far 5 minutes into this song and am laughing my patootie off. I hope you're comforted to know that your slew of bad luck in the building process is giving me such pleasure. "Oh how fab, we have a slab" or some variation of that...hah! ...time passes and now you're out of money and sounding on the brink...uh-oh, I'm worried for you...ah, but they fix the leaky roof and it sounds like you're sanity might be salvageable. Whew.

You'll have to add verses, hopefully not about how you sue the contractor and end up in court--sitting next to Arlo Guthrie on bench number seven for littering. I have faith that you can make this song 22 minutes without too much effort.

Ah, the song that never ends, or simply put, the money pit! Truer words have not been sung!! I chuckled the whole way, only because I knew it was true! Well done!

That was fun!

We just finished a complete house remodel, inside and out, over a year!!!!!!

Our contractor was actually wonderful but we went zillions over budget...I like my home office/studio and momma seems thrilled with the rest of the house, but it was STRESSFUL!!!!

Back to your song. I think you should turn it into a more conventional song, just the best of the best verses and a reasonable length, maybe a bridge?

IT was fun................

Unhappy

Thanks for the comments, guys. At this point, the current last verse is way too optimistic, considering that we've been informed of major new overruns. Our builder is now into meta-overruns -- estimated overruns on his previous estimates of overruns.

Fortunately for me, my wife has been handling the day-to-day details (and before you ask, only a small part of the overruns are due to her decisions; she has probably saved us about as much due to her extensive internet research). But i think writing this song has helped me keep my sanity.
