What is the "Easiest" Acoustic you've ever played?
What acoustic is the easiest to play? Not the best sounding - not the most versatile.... Simply the easiest?
Like, you picked it up and started playing and the thought, "Wow. What I I am playing sounds like what is coming out of this guitar!" For me - it's been Taylors. Specifically, 412'S AND 712'S. I think Taylor's lack "character", (unlike Gibsons and Martins) but they are so easy to play. Maybe it's their electric-style-neck. They're like a Baldwin upright piano - you play them, and they sound like what you through it should sound like. And so - why aren't we satisfied with that? Instead, we anguish over chasing that perfect sound (at least I do). Thoughts???? Just thought I'd share...no big point being made. Frankly, I'm a little drunk and happy to be a guitar player on a Friday afternoon. Peace. Last edited by Kerbie; 07-09-2021 at 05:16 PM. Reason: Please refrain from profanity. |

My Merrill C-28 Adi/Cocobolo. It needs a complete refret, a possible neck reset, and has some binding shrinkage that may need to be redone. But it plays effortlessly and is super responsive like no Martin dread ever was. It sounds amazing and has a nice fat rounded neck that my hand loves. Perfect!

My Collings OM2G short scale. A custom order, the moment it arrived (with a slight truss rod tweak) it played absolutely effortlessly.

Undoubtedly my Cole Clark Angel. Cole Clark guitars, like Taylors, are renowned for playing well straight out of the box, but my Angel 3 is outstanding even by their standards. Very nearly plays itself. I loved it the moment I tried it. Sadly, it was way out of my budget range - double my target price. So I bought it anyway.
Taylor's high-end models don't do that much for me. They tend to be over-responsive and fussy to play. Their bread-and-butter models are amazing though: the 314 is a good example.

Furch 12-string. They deserve a round of applause for creating a pretty good sounding 12-string that is dead easy to play without sounding thin and bright.

My Martin OMC 15. It’s got the lowest action of any guitar I own yet I can strum the heck out of it with no buzzing. I don’t know how they did it. Can’t seem to get any other guitars that way.

Yamaha APX7. Not the worlds greatest sound, but the neck is so comfy for me.

John Thomas' 1943 Gibson SJ.
This guitar spent the first few years of its life traveling around Europe during the Second World War. The first time I played it, it just felt right. The neck is slightly rolled and the strings are just bendy enough. It's worn in all of the right spots. Should you meet John in person, he will likely have this guitar with him and likely, he will be glad to let you play it. I believe that he has a film in the works centered around this guitar and its travels - including present-day travels to some renowned players. Here's John talking about and playing the guitar: Rick

All my guitars, present and past, play well; that's one of the main reasons I chose them. The ones with low tension strings on them are the easiest to play.

Gibson LC-3 Caldera. Short scale, 00 sized, cutaway. Fabulous guitar. Loud for a small body and very easy to play.

My Avalon was perfect out of the box and my Furch needed just a tweak of the truss rod.
