Default collings 001 ts vs martin 0018v

Hello

i need a little bluesy guitar, which model would you prefer between collings 001 traditional satin and martin 0018v?

martin is cheaper i think.

maybe it would be better a competition with the martin 00018 authentic 1937 but it's a bit bigger its shape

It just depends on whether you prefer the Collings sound or the Martin sound, both companies make fine guitars. I think you should base your choice on the individual instrument rather than looking at a specific brand.

Don't know about the Collings, but I had a 00-18V. Wish I still had it, but I traded it for a Goodall that I just had to have.

I liked everything about that Martin. It was one of the best I've ever owned.

For me it would definitely be the Martin, but I'm not sure that helps you much.

Just personal preference, but I love the 001s. A big, rich sound that appeals to me. With the 1929 00, the 001 is one of my favorite 00s on the planet. Wonderful guitar.

I loved the Collings when I tried it. Great definition, infinite sustain, incredible for finger picking. Very versatile... But as you are looking for a blues guitar, the Martin is so much smoother and woodier. The bass is huge for it’s size. It’s one of the best blues guitar I have played.

This is how I would describe it as well. I have a Collings 01 and a 00-18V. The Collings isn't what I would think of as a blues guitar. It's a really nice guitar but rich in harmonics and sustain. Put some Martin Monels on the 00-18V and you're good to go.

Martin for this purpose.

Martin is probably better suited to blues style, but if your playing requires articulation and definition, I’d go Collings. Obviously you’ll know in a flash if you can play them yourself.

The Collings T series are incredibly nice, with a more dry tone than the standard line. But still quite different than a Martin sound.

I’ve owned them both and for your purpose would recommend the Martin.

That being said I like the Collings much better overall. Like Kerbie said, there’s just something about the 001’s.

Cheers,

George

I have had both. I am generally a Collings guy, BUT for blues I like my Martin 0-15S. The all mahogany is made for blues. You might look at an 00-15S or a 00-15. Plus the 15 series are less expensive (not less quality).

Sorry if this is a curve ball but I play a lot of fingerstyle blues.

Jon

I also agree with that. 00-15 with some Retro Monel strings work great for blues. Really fundamental tone tho. Definitely not as versatile as his two previous choices.
