Default Thoughts On This Tuner Replacement Job

Just wondering how others see this tuner replacement job ... or is it just me?

Cheap asian tuners, probably added to guitar sometime in the 70/80s. I wouldn't pay it any mind and would go ahead and get some decent Gotoh 3-on-a-plate tuners for it, which would not only look more correct, but would cover up some of the mess on the back of that headstock.

Looks pretty good to me.. No, wait. The tuner knobs are turned to all different points. I like to have them all turned parallel to the floor when playing. Makes an "interesting" sound that way and will then go perfectly with its appearance.

They look like they'd be a closer fit for the old screw holes if they were swapped to the other side of the head. I suppose then they'd turn in the opposite direction we're used to.

What are we looking at? Context of the photo matters.

Looks like a guitar that's had some weight reduction on the head.

The old holes the screws were in are clearly too big, hence the swap. On a lower end guitar, why not? Why go to the trouble of dowel rods, gluing, waiting, sanding, refinishing. You never look at the back of the head stock anyway. I get it. On a cheap guitar l would have done it too.

It's exceedingly ugly. Could have at least filled the holes with some colored wood putty. Then it would just be ugly.

It’s not just you Bruce, how about some background or is the pic something you grabbed off the internet?

One possible cause - not knowing or caring about the difference between "worm over" and "worm under."

It's just a cheap Hummingbird copy I saw on Facebook marketplace yesterday.

When I look at that swap I see that if the tuners are turned upside down and swapped sides then the replacements line up with the existing holes.

kkrell is close to my thinking too.
