A crack along the neck
I bought this Washburn D-56SW from guitar center online. Beautiful guitar and a wonderful sound. While I was cleaning it up, I saw this crack along the neck on the top. I doesn't go all the way to the edge, and when I looked/felt underneath, it is right up against the neck block underneath. The neck block is not cracked or loose. Anyway, I'm going to try and repair it with runny super CA glue. It isn't spread and it looks the same whether the strings are under tension or not. Any ideas on this? The bridge also had a crack in it. Looks like some moron tech jammed the pins in so hard it cracked. Very shallow though, about 3/32 deep. This was described by guitar center as "like new and UN-played!" Un played because they broke it I think.

I would return that one if possible.

I don't think that's a jammed bridge pin. I think that's a structural or construction issue and the tension from the strings is causing the neck and bridge to fold towards each other.

I'd return it as well unless you got it at a steep discount.

There is no way GC should have sold that without disclosing the damage. Those cracks could easily expand and get much worse. You really should return the guitar.
Also, I am not a luthier, but I don't think superglue is the right adhesive for those kinds of repairs.

I'd send it back; unless they told you about these defects up front and knocked a couple hundred dollars off the price to cover getting them fixed.

I'd send that back. Hopefully you haven't tried to glue it yet.

This is major damage! Those cracks reduce the value significantly. You should be able to return it and get your money back.

Wow. I had to scratch my head on this one. No offense but is this an April fools in November? Dude! That is so not.... a super glue fix. And GC does have a decent return policy. Come on, this was a joke right? Tell us you try and make funny one.

It's broken.
Don't touch it. Send them those 2 pictures and send it back.

OP....... Send it back, that bridge is ready to split !!! I had a 1976 Gibson Gospel, it was solid maple , birds eye maple back and sides it was gorgeous, it sang like a bird, almost played by it self !!! But one nice warm day about 3 weeks after I had it that bridge split, right across the strings just like that small crack is on yours, and what a shame !!! It wouldn't tune, it sounded like poop and I had to send it back to Gibson for repairs, the dealer would not refund me !!! Gibson took 3 months to send it back, they told me they had to replace the bridge, the guitar was never the same, it still wouldn't tune properly, I could not even set the intonation close to being good enough to gig with . I had to sell it for a loss, and buy another guitar !!! Send it back now while you still can !!!

The two sides of the crack at the neck have obviously moved against each other so it's either had a good knock or all parts have been glued 'out of line' and the structure could be under pressure.
The split in the bridge can only get bigger (and weaker). Return. |
