Default NAD & NGD - 68 Custom Princeton Reverb and G&L trend continues...

Thanks to Bob’s review, other posts on this forum, and research on the internet, I bought a 68 Custom Princeton Reverb two weeks ago to use for harmonica (with a Shure SM 57 mic). Sounds classic and amazing for harp, and is great for my guitars, too. Then the next weekend, my music major son, an amazingly proficient guitarist and I bought a used G&L ASAT USA Classic Butterscotch Blonde guitar. It sounds incredible through the amp, no pedals needed. Am really enjoying playing the G&L. The neck is fast and easy, and I'm impressed by the G&L quality and performance.

Congratulations! That G&L ASAT looks awesome (as does the amp)!

Enjoy!

I have two ASAT's ........They're excellent, vastly under rated. I like yours, nice catch.

I just can’t get past the headstock. It is completely unnecessary to design something so ugly. I am sure they are nice guitars otherwise.

Designed by Leo Fender to prevent any perception of copyright infringement.

Yes I know. Even so, they could have done a little better job.

I really like the G&L Headstock, but then again, I like pink guitars too...

Yep, I'm pretty fond of the headstock and everything else about mine...little rampix approves and wonders why we don't have a ASAT too. Nice guitar seannx!

Nice! Can I ask? Did you get the G&L new or used? If so about how much? I recently made an offer of $900-1000.00 to a guy who was selling a '91 Fullerton G&L ASAT Classic. Same color, hardward and electronics spec as yours, except it was a Leo Signature model. I think I may have low balled the guy. I never heard back.

I've demo'd alot of USA ASATs and that one you got is the one I liked the most.

Well..I do like my Bluesboy. It's sounds great straight into my DeVille 410, but with a Boss DD3 Delay I can get my Luther Perkins on.

I've seen ASATs go for that amount many times. G&Ls have one of the worst resale values of any good guitar that I've seen, Leo Sig or not. Which is great for buying one used, bad for the seller.
Some people just hold out for higher price, but most don't get it.

It was on consignment at a local music store. Original asking price was $1,350, reduced to $1,200. After playing the guitar, and doing cost comparisons on Craigslist and Reverb, I went back on the weekend with my youngest son. He loved the guitar too, and we split the cost. Prior to buying it, we demoed some Fender Teles at another local store. In comparison, the G&L was by far the superior sounding and playing instrument. Had it been direct from a private party, I think the price would have been closer to $1,000 - $1,100, but we’re totally fine with what we paid. Besides the obvious enjoyment of the sound and action, I’m loving how well it stays in tune after lots of bends. If it goes back to college with my son, I may well look for another G&L. BTW, ASAT is a military abbreviation for “anti-satellite.” Apparently Leo Fender and Dale Hyatt liked the image of a guitar shooting down things in space.

Here's my G&L, an S-500, ash and birdseye maple:

At this point it has played on more recordings than I can shake a stick at. Great guitar.
