forum debut - song
I've never posted any links in here to anything since I haven't had anything I was able to share, but I do check out the links folks post to their music and their experiments. So, in the name of experimentation, I sat down with the mostly new recorder today while the weather was bad, and messed around a bit, and then figured out the upload process.
Below's the link to the one thing I have on myspace.com, called "Long Goodbyes." It's rough but it's original and it's mine, and there you have it. Folks at the Jacksonville shindig in December will have heard this. Comments (honest and otherwise) much welcome. And, thanks. http://www.myspace.com/laurencoggins

Very nice Lauren. It would be easy to sit for a while with a nice cafeinated beverage and listen to you sing and play this kind of music. Nicely done!

Not decaf? That dull, huh? lol
Sorry, couldn't resist a little self-deprecating humor.

Fantastic! very nice job.
I am curious: Did you play and sing at the same time? or overdub? What recording interface and software are you using (becuase it sounds great!)?

No, but I'm typing and chewing gum at the same time. I have the Tascam DP01FX/CD and I'm *just* figuring out how to use it. It's fun to play around with. I've got three guitar tracks on there (I used Thumper's recommendation and used the mic as well as the ES pickup, and have another track to round it out). I'll never be a guru on this technical stuff but I'm making at least a little progress. I like the Tascam.
**note--I didn't record to the computer. I burned the song to CD and just ripped it to the computer with Windows Media Player and converted it to MP3 with the same program. Nothing high-tech here by any stretch.

Great track! Loved the lyics and the harmony.
If you ever come out to NE for a show, put me on the guest list +1.

Lauren, while I've told you before that I like your voice, hearing it in harmony is even better. I know your talent as a writer and performer, I'm glad to see you share it with others. Good job, and I hope you continue to find the inspiration to write good material like this. I sure would like to hear some nice pretty guitar fills in the background.

Very nice job Lauren. Great song, nice sound, pretty voice, excellent playing.
That reminds me that at this year's MonroeStock, I must manage get in my feeble attempt at open mic BEFORE you have your turn. |

Joe;
I think the trick is to go first and get it out of the way, but danged if I've been able to convince myself to do that. I figure we've got eight months or so to work on stuff for MS6, though, so maybe I'll get my you-know-what in gear sooner this year. Maybe not, but it's a possibility anyway..... Allen--thanks.

bobc-yep, it's my writing. I had good inspiration (even if I wasn't creatively compelled until I got to work one morning...weird).
PeaVine--you're probably right. My ability to hold a tempo is somewhat...erratic. As Arlo Guthrie said once at a concert, tempo is a living thing...
