Default Patinated Copper

So, the build is speeding on.

Tom has done the most wonderful job on the copper of the rosette.

I really think that this finish is so simple, but really engaging and interesting.

Also, the back is taking shape!

From this picture it looks like Tom has bound the sides already? That's a very unusual technique I've not seen before! I wonder if that's a Somogyi thing?

I think that's just tape because the sides are two layers laminated together.

Default Copper Rosette

Sorry for the lack of action on this, but I've been very busy at work. Thankfully Tom's ceaseless quest for perfection in rosettes has continued.

Here's the rosette (not patinated this time, but ground copper) fitted.

A slightly more "artistic" shot of it!

And here it is in place.

I'm getting really excited about this now! Tom thinks the timeline will mean completed by the end of the year and delivered...perhaps as soon as January!

What an eye-catching instrument this is going to be when it's finished.

So beautifully proportioned.

It's so lovely that these days luthiers finish the inside of the instrument as well as the outside.

The wood Tom has chosen is one of the killer things about this guitar, it really is breathtaking. I think it looks like a cross between wood from "the tree" and the "whitebait" ancient Kauri that's used by Laurie Williams in New Zealand. It has a sort of 3D iridescent quality.

I suspect it will be the star exhibit on my "guitar wall" in my office.

Sitting alongside a Sands 00 in koa, a 1969 Martin 00-18 and a Sands OMC in wenge.

I love the look of the copper rosette! What is the rest of the rosette made of?

The figuring on the back is mesmerizing!

That is one stunning guitar! I think you've hit the trifecta.

The rest of the rosette is ebony...and yes, it's an amazing set of sapelle isn't it! I'm a luck guy.

Looking fantastic, Adam!

I was chatting with Tom about mine earlier today - it won't be finished until the back end of next year, but already excited.

I'll be watching progress on yours with great interest - and look forward to playing it!

Cheers,
David

Default Completed box...

As my Sands MMD build progresses I'm more and more pleased with the decisions that Tom and I made about woods, styling etc.

Tom thinks that it'll be ready by the end of the year...and delivered early next year.

Default Ready for spraying...

So here we are, the excitement is building as we're into the home straight!

Apparently Ervin is very impressed...and so he should be...it looks absolutely magnificent.

So, in the new year it will be joining its two smaller siblings:

Your MMD is exquisite! I love the overall look and how the copper is repeated in the rosette and the headstock. Adam, you are one lucky musician!
