I love my 12-string and would love a forum dedicated to them. But also I'll confess to liking lots of eyeballs to read what I post. It's no fun to post and hear nothing but crickets. That means posting where there is the most traffic. Tough call. |

You must. I have. The late Micheal Hedges was a master of the Harp Guitar. And....he's the only one I've seen or heard play one. So you have a valid point. LOL.

As a big fan of the 12 string, I would welcome a sub here on the AGF but I am fine with 12 string topics in the “general” sub.

I have been a 12-string player since I was 18 years old. And I really enjoy reading and taking part in 12-string threads. My feeling, however, is that the best place for a 12-string discussion is in the general acoustic guitar forum. If we have a separate 12-string forum, very few people will read the thread. It will be separated from everything else, like the carbon fiber subforum or the archtop subforum.
Many acoustic players have a 12-string guitar and so I think the 12-string is of general interest on the AGF. So my vote is to not have a separate 12-string forum. If a 12-string discussion stays in the main acoustic guitar discussion, more people will see it, including me. Obviously, this is only my 2 cents on this subject. If we have a separate forum, I will try to remember to go there and see what is going on once in a while. - Glenn

I LOVE my Mark Angus F-412 (I'm making up the numbers 'cause the body was built from a template for a Guild F-40!)... I've had it since he built it in 1983, and, for the past 25 years or so, my gigs have been solo jobs, just 6 and 12 string guitars and voice.
I'd love to see a 12 string sub-Forum, and I would frequent it each time I came here - usually once a day, if not more often! 12 string guitars are different critters - in theory, I suppose they're just 6 string guitars with some added octave/unison strings, but in reality they aren't a whole lot like 6 stringed guitars... once you begin to explore the nuances of "what a 12 string can do", there ain't nothing like 'em! Not to mention the technical differences in the actual playing, construct and maintaining of the things! There's a whole lot of experience, knowledge and just plain "time put in" with some of our members... seems a shame to not have a spot for it. I sure wish I'd had someone's expertise for guidance when I bought my first 12 string in 1966. Got it in Tijuana for $35 (should have been my first clue!) and it basically imploded within 3 months... sigh... So, YES,PLEASE, a Twelve String sub-Forum would be great!

In it I posted a picture of the strings on my Guild F-412. If there was a separate '12-string' section here on the AGF I would have posted it there too Mr Negative.

Personally, I do not like too many subforums. Most forum members and guests are not searching through all the subforums that we have now. There is lots of good information in every subforum thread that might be of interest or benefit to all guitar enthusiasts who might also post to those threads if they were in the general discussion category. Every thread in the "General Acoustic Guitar Discussion" category is like it's own mini subforum.

I like archtop guitars, but I hardly ever check out the "Archtops" forum. FWIW.
