Ha this is an interesting study in the problem of communicating via the internet
When I read the OP I took it mean "Hey are you old enough to recognized these specific lyrics, and if so what is the name of the song and album" Where others here took it to mean "What song and album are paramount in your own memory " thus possibly reflecting age.

Given the op is a bit vague either interpretation is valid

Yes, I recall hearing "Coming Back to Me" casually, and then one afternoon hearing it very completely on a cheap plastic case portable hifi in a room in Iowa. The LP belonged to a roommate from Chicago, who'd actually seen Jefferson Airplane perform.
I was amazed to read, years afterward, that the song was more or less an informal studio take, largely made up as it was played for the first time by the songwriter as he sung it. There's so much atmosphere in that song. Well sung Marty Balin vocal, and even though there's more reverb there than I'd like usually, it works here. That simple and effective acoustic part with those tentative additional acoustic guitars that are barely there. The recorder, credited to Grace Slick (how often do we hear that on a rock record?) is perfect and I'm guessing it must have been an overdub. There's bass on the cut, but it's mixed low too that it's hard to tell from a bass strings being played on one of the guitars. The impact of the whole is pretty magical to me still.

It was a spur-of-the moment thing late in the evening. Probably an acid flashback of long ago events -- a house on the beach north of La Jolla while attending the second year of existence of UCSD,an old house that was leveled many years ago for condo development. A time of innocence. A time of confidences. You boys have enlightened me regarding the specific artist. This forum is an amazing resource. Thanks. |

Best version i ever heard of this great Weaver's tune (which i cannot ever stop playing when i pick up any guitar) is the one Dominic Chianase (Uncle Junior on The Sopranos) performed solo with a guitar on Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast two years ago. It made me weep.

That was the first LP I bought when I started to earn my own money at age 15 in the Summer of 1970. Are You Experienced? Well, I am. I saw my first live concert that summer as well which was Sly and the Family Stone at Madison Square Garden. Hendrix kicked the bucket about two months later--one of the saddest things in my recollection.
